Here are some charming images from fruit crate labels I have on a cd from an e-bay seller called ephemeraplus. I am very obliged to the seller for permission to display the images on this blog. I have included them as low resolution GIFs. (All Rights Reserved).
There were a lot of very interesting fruit crate labels in the 20th century and even earlier and they are very collectible and they certainly frame well.
We have a winter wonderland here in Toronto and I thought that it would be great to feature snow people with hats.
Notice how Snow boy (Snoboy) is a Snowman with a top hat whereas the snow girl (Snogirl) s a “real girl” . There is no such thing as a snow person. The girl is wearing a plain ski hat (toque). I did hear that a greeting card is using gender neutral snowpersons and you can send a e-greeting card with a snowwoman as well as a snowman – both done in snow. (I did not keep the link however) Too risque for the early 20th century perhaps? What next – mermen as well as mermaids? Why do you never see mermen anyway?
You can get some reasonably priced real labels at this label collector site.
